At 120 square metres of gross floor area, this is a small house. The design utilises all of the small parcel of land through the creation of an L-shaped house addressing a garden also of 120 square metres. The formal response is a strong & serene dialogue between garden and house. This dialogue is most evident in the garden and house walls made in rammed earth that wrap into one another like Yin & Yang. It is also evident in the contrast between rammed earth and timber and in the dialogue between shelter and prospect taken to the maximum. Australian, eastern and western philosophies of balance between nature and the built environment have been carefully assessed and translated into this highly biophilic design.
